Air Source Heat Pumps

Choose an Air Source Heat Pump for efficient, low-cost heating and hot water all year round

Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) are becoming an increasingly popular, renewable heating solution as they provide efficient, low-cost heating and hot water all year round. Air Source Heat Pump technology is supported by Government backed funding of £7,500 through the (BUS), Boiler Upgrade Scheme set up to encourage the take up of renewable heating systems in England and Wales as part of the drive to meet their Net Zero targets.

We supply and install air source heat pumps

JRL Microgen are specialist suppliers and installers of energy efficient air source heat pumps for homes and businesses throughout the country. We supply two types of heat pumps – air to water and air to air systems.

Air-to-water system
An air to water heat pump works by transferring heat from the air outside to a water storage tank. The water is warmed up and supplied to radiators, underfloor heating, and taps via your wet central heating system.

Air-to-air system
Air-to-air heat pumps transfer heat from the outside air to the air inside your home, increasing the air temperature in each room. This warm air enters your home through a series of fans. This type of pump will not heat your water.

Is an ASHP the right choice for your property?

Heat Pumps are very efficient when compared with electric or oil heating systems as the amount of energy used to operate the pump is small compared to the amount of heat it produces. When designed correctly a heat pump can produce energy at a 1-4 ratio. Meaning that for every 1kW of electricity an ASHP needs to run you get a return of 4kW of heat energy to use in the home.

Homes that are well insulated will benefit from an air source heat pump because the heat output is generally is less than conventional heating. Therefore it will run longer at a lower output to provide a more constant temperature.

How does an air source heat pump work

Heat pumps work by absorbing heat from the outside air and transforming it into a higher temperature liquid via a compressor. This heated liquid runs through your central heating system and for use in your radiators, underfloor heating and hot water.
