Biomass Boilers

Save Money with a Biomass Boiler. The eco-friendly & energy efficient home heating solution

Correctly installed and maintained, biomass boilers tend to offer between 90% and 95% efficiency, which is significantly higher than many conventional fossil fuel boilers (especially older models). As a cleaner, greener heat source alternative, we supply and install wood burning biomass heating systems which use a number of forms of wood fuel; logs, pellets, chips or clean wood waste. Eco-friendly and energy efficient, a Biomass boiler is proving a popular option for anyone wanting to reduce their heating bills and improve their carbon footprint. Suitable for both homes or businesses, installing biomass boilers also attracts funding of up to £5,000 via the Government backed Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

We supply and install biomass boilers

Biomass renewable energy is an ideal alternative to oil or LPG, where larger, rural properties can achieve huge savings on their energy bills. Biomass is a sustainable energy gained from organic matter (in most cases a form of wood) and provides cheaper heating than other fuel sources by as much as 70%.

In terms of carbon emission reduction, however, it is un-doubtable that replacing your existing fossil fuel boiler will make a positive difference. As the figures show, switching to biomass can save up to 9 tons of carbon dioxide every year. Moreover, the per kilowatt saving of wood fuel over certain fossil fuels is sizeable, especially if you are currently using electricity to heat your property.

We are more than just biomass boiler installers, we are renewable energy specialists; our priority is to ensure that your system is correctly sized to your property and is completely efficient, leaving you 100% satisfied.

The space needed for a biomass boiler

The size of system you have depends on a number of factors; the size of your property, your heating requirements and the type of fuel store you require. For example, a modern three-bed semi detached house, you will need a biomass boiler with an output of between 8kW-20kW. This will require a minimum of 1.54m x 1m in space for the equipment.

A large detached period property may need a biomass boiler with an output of 80kW. This is larger, so will require approximately 5m x 5m of space.

If you require a commercial biomass boiler (if you’re running a large residential care home, agricultural building or a hotel), you may require a biomass boiler with an output of 200kW. This will need a minimum of 11m x 6m of space, so may be best suited to a dedicated plant room.

Biomass boilers design & installation process

There are a number of factors we will need to consider in designing your biomass renewable energy system;

1. How your current central heating system and controls work. 2. What your heat demands are and your living habits. 3. Your current electricity usage and cost. 4. What level of control and interaction you’d like. 5. Whether your existing heating system will be compatible with the renewable technology we are proposing. 6. If you require a large, commercial system – where will the technology/biomass fuel be housed? If you require housing to be built then we can advise. 7. We will consider the best solutions for your lifestyle and usage and design a package accordingly.

If biomass renewable energy is not the best option for your property then we will advise you of better ways for you to access renewable heat such as Solar Thermal Heating or an Air Source Heat Pump. We aim for 100% satisfaction, so if we don’t think it will work for you then we will tell you.

Increased efficiency over conventional boilers

The table below illustrates the price per kilowatt saving of wood fuel over certain fossil fuels and demonstrates that if you are currently using oil, LPG or electricity to heat your property, a biomass boiler would present a sound long-term investment.

FUEL TYPE
Approx. cost per kWh Produced
Wood chips 2.5p
Wood pellets 4p
Natural gas 4.5p
Heating oil 5.9p
LPG 7.5p
Electricity 14.4p

How a biomass heating system works

Biomass boilers work by burning biological matter to create heat. The heat travels through a flue and passed through a heat exchanger, which transfers the heat into water to use in your homes central heating system.
